E Smith Horizons combines domain knowledge and experienced professionals to create, finance and execute unique real estate and social infrastructure solutions.
Ever the visionary and servant-leader, Emmitt recognized the need to expand services to meet clients’ ever-changing and unique requirements. Areas of expansion included construction consulting, project management, site selection, acquisition, disposition, portfolio management, facility management, business and economic incentives and financing and capital solutions.
A graduate of the University of Florida, Emmitt Smith enjoyed an illustrious career in the National Football League with the Dallas Cowboys and Arizona Cardinals, earning such accolades as the NFL's All-Time Leading Rusher, Super Bowl XXVIII MVP and induction to the NFL Hall of Fame.

As one of the greatest wide receivers in NFL history, Cris scored 130 touchdowns and racked up 1,101 receptions for 13,899 yards (12.6 avg.) in 16 seasons, finishing his career as the NFL’s second all-time leading receiver and with the second-most touchdowns in league history. Carter is a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame and the NFL’s All-Decade Team of the 1990s.
Cris transitioned seamlessly into broadcasting following his playing career, joining HBO’s “Inside the NFL” as a studio analyst in 2002. He moved to ESPN in 2008, appearing on a variety of programs as a studio analyst, including “Sunday NFL Countdown” and “Monday Night Countdown,” becoming a fixture on the sports television landscape.
An Ohio native, Carter attended The Ohio State University where he studied communications and was a first-team All-American and two-time All-Big Ten performer. He has been recognized for his work with inner-city youth, receiving the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award in 1999. He also serves as a mentor in President Barack Obama’s “My Brother’s Keeper” Program.

Mr. Cogsville began his career as an attorney in the Structured Finance Group at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP. Subsequently, he joined the Leveraged Finance Group at Merrill Lynch as an investment banker. In New York and London, he executed more than $20 billion of structured and real estate transactions in connection with high yield debt and credit facilities for homebuilders and other industries.
Mr. Cogsville was captain of the University of North Carolina soccer team, a member of the 1988 US national soccer team and a first round draft pick for the 1990 MISL champion San Diego Sockers. Additionally, Don serves or has served on the Board of Visitors of University of North Carolina, The New York Urban League, Jazz at Lincoln Center, The Amsterdam News Editorial Board and founded the non-partisan voter registration initiative, Citizen Change.
Mr. Cogsville received a B.A. from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and a J.D. from Rutgers University.
